I ordered a new laptop from Dell with these specs:

Intel® CoreT Duo T2050 (1.60GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
1GB Shared Dual Channel SDRAM
128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X 1300 Hyper Memory
DVD Burner
120 hard drive

I took the $55.00 option to upgrade to Windows Vista in January or
February or March. What I want to know is, will this laptop be able to run
the Vista Aero package? I know it will run Vista, but what about Aero?

Thanks!

It should run Vista Aero; it meets the requirements. If it doesn't perform
well with Aero, don't sweat it. Turn Aero off. It's just a gadget (not as
in SideBar gadgets). It has no real value and could even be called an
annoyance or distraction when using Vista. You won't miss a thing if you
don't have it.

If your Express Upgrade coupon entitles you to Vista Home Premium or higher
yes. If Vista Home Basic, no.

It will run it fine. You quickly get used to it, and soon XP looks antique
by comparison.

Very much so. I have a similar laptop that I'm typing this to you in
Windows Vista right now and its fine. Enjoy your product.

Not sure I would agree! When I first installed Vista on my desktop I was so
impressed with the 'windows key' + 'tab' and the live thumbnail pictures
when you place your mouse over an app in the taskbar and the zoom up/zoom
down type effect when you maximize/minimize a window.

Hmm.. Although thinking about it, I don't need to see how my program looks
before switching to them and after the first two times I have never used
'windows keys' + 'tab' or left the mouse over an app in my taskbar long
enough to see a mini preview and I don't miss the fade in thing on my
notebook which doesn't have a decent graphics card.

You know what!? you could be right!

But its still so cool! I like the post-its, which you could get an app for
just about anywhere, but its nice that they took and designed a few handy
tools to have out at all times so that I don't have to go command-line for
them.

Go to the following link and download the upgrade advisor. It will give you
a very detailed list of compatible and incompatible features in your system
both hardware and software. People have gotten the Radeon X1300 to run but
they may have had to get some patches from LaptopVideo2go.com or some other
driver hack site.
