laptop screen problem

Hi,

I have a Compaq presario 2500 laptop with XP home on it. Everything
worked fine until couple of weeks ago it's monitor went completely
black. I thought it was a hardware failure. I can still use the computer
with an external monitor connected to it (as I am doing right now). But
recently I noticed that the screen actually works for some time right
after I turn the computer on. It displays the compaq logo and for a
couple of seconds it displays WinXP startup screen, then blinks a few
times and goes black. So I wonder if it really is a busted screen, or
may be there is some software problem that can be fixed relatively easy.
If anybody experienced something similar or heard of something like it,
I would appreciate any help.

TIA

Not likely a software problem, more likely that the backlight for the LCD or
the inverter that powers it has gone bad.

So how does it work on startup as he suggested and then drop out?

If it works at all doesn't that only leave the signal from the software when
booted?

I am thinking you should look further into your graphics card software
maybe!

But don't give up!
