Hello:
I bought in July 2008 a laptop Toshiba P205D-S8802
is there a mean to know if it was a refurbished one or not??

Thanks
Maurice

There are laws in place that require a factory refurbished device to
be sold as such. That however doesn't prevent unethical stores from
taking return merchandise and resealing & selling as though it was new.

IMO, Probably not. Refurbish could imply it was just reloaded to
factory and tested to verify that the parts worked. It would be
something I would think the seller would have told you. You might be
able to tell by wear and tear and condition of the original software.
Are the CDs shrink wrapped still? That kind of thing.

I bought a refurbished part for my Dell Laptop (3 years old) and the
part looks perfect.

Was it running WinXP, WinXP SP1, WinXP SP2, or WinXP SP3 when you bought it?
Where did you buy it and how much did you pay for it?

It was equipped with vista with a stickers on the back showing the serial
number 25 letters, (I removed vista immediately).
I bought it in Lebanon and paid 650$+10%VAT =715$. (It's a AMD Turion 64x2
2Ghz with shared ATI VGA).

thanks

I dunno what problems you're having that led you to ask your original
question but I can tell you that it was NOT a good idea to "remove" Vista
and then install WinXP on that notebook PC, Maurice.

PS: You voided your Warranty by doing so, too.

It's just a curiosity reason. (because I heard now there so many refurbished
laptops in the market)
In fact, I didn't remove vista, I created a new patition d:, then I
installed xp, vista still in c:, but the system boot now under xp, is there
a way to have both OS running with possibility of choice of booting OS??
BTW, I didn't like vista.

Thanks

I was never able to find anything on my notebooks' warranties to
substantiate that statement. When I was buying notebooks for work, there was
always a choice of Win3.11 or Win95, then a choice of Win95/ME/XP, then they
started coming with XP or Vista. In the last couple of years they (Dell's
and HP's) were coming with Vista, but we would re-image them with XP. We
never once had a warranty repair problem- if something broke, they fixed it,
Dell and HP alike. On my personal HP Pavillion that I bought two years ago
or so, I removed Vista and installed XP. Got it fixed for free when the
internal NIC fried and took some other stuff with it.
I have since sold it and bought a Gateway (because it has a dedicated video
card instead of the onboard shared card), but I left Vista on it. Still
haven't received the replacement hard drive on it that died. (No connection
there, but Gateway's service sucks, big time.)

Just my 2 cents' worth,
SC Tom

That's a topic for another thread, Maurice.
