laptop powers off on its own

Does anyone have any idea how my Sony VAIO PCG-GRZ660 XP Home laptop can
power off on its own? All the power settings (in Control Panel &
Sony-supplied "Power Panel") are set for always on, never turn off. I had
SP1, and I did a complete system restore. It was good for a while, then it
started it again. I downloaded SP2 last week and that didn't seem to help or
hurt the problem. It's very difficult to pin down an action that causes it,
because it is so intermitent. Is it possible that it's not Windows related?
I never get an error message, nor know where to look for one! Please
help...I really don't want to have to go back to Best Buy!!

Here is a suggestion, maybe it is overheating and usually this will cause a
computer to shut down from further damage.

I thought that might be one of the problems. I have used the tabs on the
bottom to prop it up and don't have anything else sitting up against it. It
will be 2 years old in Feb., but I have only had this problem off and on
since early this year. I looked in the vent holes from the outside and there
doesn't appear to be any dust in there. Thanks for the reply!
