I had a crash with XP Pro and after servicing packing
again, the laptop is managed by the OS more like a desktop
than a laptop, i.e. no options for battery power, shut
down needs the power button pressed to turn off
completely, etc. I changed the hardware profile to
indicate that this is a portable computer but nothing
changed. Any other settings I can change to change back
to laptop mode? Thanks.

I don't know what "servicing packing" means, but it sounds like you
haven't installed any of the laptop mftr.'s utilities, such as battery
monitor, special power controls, etc. Go to the laptop mftr.'s website
and download what you need for your particular laptop. If you can't
figure it out, call their tech support.

I don't know what "servicing packing" means,

It's like "fudge-packing," but with Microsoft's security standards. The
condoms are full of holes. HTH! ;-)
