Laptop Modem

Hi, My Dell Laptop won't connect to the internet. It says no dial tone
present. The connection socket to the modem has always been dodgy from when
I bought it as the plug always seemed a bit loose when I used it. I feel now
that maybe the socket no longer works. I know its not the phone plug as I
have tried several different ones. Am I correct in thinking that you can get
modem cards which slot into the card slots on the other side of the laptop.

Yes, you can buy a pc card modem. If the plug seemed loose, then the
laptop's modem is probably broken. If the laptop is still under warranty,
call Dell tech support and get the motherboard replaced. Otherwise, your
solution of the pc card modem is a good one.

Yes, and there are also dial-up modems that connect using a USB cable.
