I have a Dell Latitude D600 running XP Pro that has starting having
problems. I can't connect to the internet either wirelessly or through
a wired connection. It gets the wrong IP address and when manually
entered in along with the correct DNS servers and gateway IE 8.0 just
can't find any websites.

A problem that seems to be related is that the computer won't shutdown
completely.

If you use static IP, can you ping the router? If yes, can you ping 4.2.2.1?
