Please bear with me as I try to explain this.
I have a laptop from work running Windows XP Professional
that is part of a work domain. At home I have a wireless
Dlink DI-614+ network which has a desktop hardwired
through ethernet card to the 614+ router. This deksop is
also running Windows XP Home Edition.
My problem is that I cannont see the shared printers
which are hanging off the desktop.
On the notebook, I can see the desktop computer as part
of the windows network, but I can't see the printers
(which are configured as shared on the desktop). In
fact, I can see the dekstop computer listed as part of
the network, but when I click on the computer name, it
says:
"\\computer is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
system administrator of this resource..."
I have created a user account on the desktop for guest
and also for the userid I'm logged onto on the notebook.
I can ping the desktop computer from the notebook so it
is getting through the router. But I can't seem to
access anything on the desktop.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I was able to use
netbios when the computers were on different operating
systems and all was fine. But now would like to do it
without netbios as my work computer does not allow that
protocol.
thanks.

Take a look at Ron Pacchiano's article about wireless troubleshooting.

You might also try adding the UserName and Password of the XP Home PC to the
XP Pro notebook and vice versa.
