Laptop cannot access files & printer in workgroup

I have a Desktop (XP Home) and a Laptop (XP Pro) in a workgroup (MSHOME).
The Desktop can see the workgroup and access the Laptop shared folder and
printers. The Desktop can ping the Laptop. The Laptop can see the
workgroup, cannot ping the Desktop and cannot "see" or access the shared
folder or printer. There must be something I have missed in the setup
(although I used the workgroup setup wizard for both PCs without any issues).
Suggestions?
