language bar not working

Hi, i added a few languages via 'Text Services and Input Languages'. When i
open up word 2003 (i am using xp pro), and i try to change the language
either via alt-shift or use the mouse, the language doesnt change. It always
stays on English. This also happened when i had my system set up on win2000
pro.

My set up is:

win xp pro (latest sp and updates)
office 2003
installed languages: english, russian, german
i have PROMT which is a language tranlation software installed on my machine

would anyone know what the problem would be? this is getting very annoying
;)

cheers,
zork

Hi,

I am not sure if I understand, but you can't add e.g. spelling feature in
Word by going to 'Text Services and Input Languages". This will only add,
remove and change where your keys are located on your keyboard regarding
different language set (e.g. Central Europe keyboard has some additional
characters, Spanish keyboard also has some additional characters, etc).

If you would like to add additional spelling features to your Word you will
have to use your office CD...

Hi Mike, no I am not talking about spelling features (i know proofing tools
offers that). I simply want my keyboard changed. i.e. if i want to start
writing in russian I want to be able to click alt-shift within word or msn
messenger and then have the russian keyboard so i can start typing cyrillic.
However when i press alt-shift/or use the mouse to change the language, my
keyboard does not change (and neither does the icon).

cheers,
zork

Assuming you can change language successfully in all other applications
(e.g., Internet Explorer and Outlook Express), check your settings at:

...>Text Services and Input Languages>Key settings

...>Text Services and Input Languages>Advanced>Compatibility
Configuration

"Language Bar" which is a new feature included into Windows XP and
aslo into MS Office versions >= 2002, is known to have problems.
Please see my page about that (based on Russian computer forums
discussion):
