LAN TROUBLE

hi , My network config is as follows: windows2000pro- (server) and 12 XP-Pros
(clients) all connected with a 100 Mbps Switch.

Ip are like this 10.17.200.201 to 212 for clents
Ip of Windows2000Pro is 10.17.200.6 which is connected to internet with
broadband connection. So this is the only system connected to the internet .
Untill now it was working fine but now the problem is though i can access
folders kept in win2000 pro system from client XP system but i am unable to
save or run any exe files from this .

So i thought could be connectivity problem so i cut the UTP connected with
win2k system and re-crimped. But the problem remains same.

I also suspect could be problem of the switch is that so please kindly reply
in this regard.

I also suspect that crimped cable is also one of the suspect. Kindly send
details about how to crimp the wires(connection to RJ-45).
Switch working at 100MBps, Lan cards -100Mbps. Cat-5 calble.

If you can access the server's folders from the client PCs, then you do *not*
have a hardware problem. If you continue to fart with the cables and the
switch you will surely cause one; then you can debug a multiple-problem LAN.

Can you ping clients from server and server from clients and clients from
other clients? Can you both ping-by-number and ping-by-name in both directions
for each PC-pair?

Using my long-distance crystal ball, I suspect that your problem is with either
permissions or expectations, rather than the network. Failure to save
(from a client to the server) sounds like mis-set permissions. Failure to
execute server apps on a client may be wrong expectations, since apps usually
need to be installed on the PC on which they will be executed.
