Hope someone out there can help me
I have 2 pc one is with win 2k (my wifes) the other (mine) with winxp pro
connected in a small p2p lan to share files and printers. each have its own
firewall (zonealarm) it all worked perfect.
some days ago i used diskeeper to defrag my harddisk on the xp system
(boottime defrag, also the pagefile) this went fine, system came up and was
running. I notices that my panda titan antivirus suggested a reinstall, so
i downloaded the newest version and installed. this needed a reboot. while
waiting for the pc to start up i fetshted a cup of coffee and on returning i
realized there was a number of messages rolling down the screen. they were
in colours like from xp, something about missing or misplaced xxx. i was
puzzelt but since system came on 100% like before i did not worry,
programmes worked.
then i realized i did not get mail and could not acces internet from my pc,
but ok on my wifes.
i have checked everyting and it works. the netcard is transmitting and
receiving, but just a few small packages, there is no connection "out" and
the other pc is not seen.
i then disconnected all 4 HD on my system put in a blank one installed xp on
that, and bingo i was back again, so i trust all hardware is ok.
my question is: how do i fix the original system. how do i diagnose and how
do i fix it???
i send this out while on the temp HD, and will stay on that until i see a
reply, alas i cannot work since i will not install other software.
