LAN properties/Advanced/WMI might be corrupted.

Hello,

XP PRO.
I'm not sure why this has happened as it been working for 3 years without a glitch.

First noticed something wrong when I could get to other boxes dirs on the LAN
but they could get to my files. Said no permission etc. I can get to the
Internet Gateway Router fine as well.

On looking around found that on the LAN Connection Properties tab/Advanced, I
get a messages that Win cannot display the WMI properties and it may be
corrupted. It suggested a restore, however I would lose so much if I did this,
I thought I'd try here first.

Any help here please?

Thanks

Go to Device Manager and remove the network adapter that's associated
with the LAN connection. That also removes the LAN connection.

Reboot and let XP PRO re-install the network adapter. That also
creates a new LAN connection.

Thank you.

I did that and it was reinstalled but I still cannot access files from other boxes.

As it booted I got a message that win/sys32/wbem/F5/objects.MAP is corrupt and
unreadable.

I looked at it and it has nothing in it. The only other file in F5 is
objects.DATA which is also 0 bytes

I checked other log files in the wbem/logs dir and came up with these messages
with todays date.

The LAN/Properties/Advanced tab still shows.. WMI cannot display, might be
corrupted.

Thanks,

rock

The file system could be corrupted. Try this to repair it:

1. Open a command prompt window (Start > Run > cmd)

2. Type this command, then press Enter:

chkdsk /f c:

3. Type Y, then press Enter.

4. Restart the computer. The program that checks the file system will
run automatically.

Thanks again.

Yes I did that and the WBEM folder is populated with about 5 files now
and the message in LAN/Advanced has gone showing the protect files check box as
usual.

I still however cannot access file from other boxes. I can see the drive and
folders but when click on them get the ..'Maybe no permission blah and 'server
not enough memory etc"

Any ideas here?

I recommend that you post a new message, with a descriptive subject
title, about this new problem. Include the full text of the error
messages.
