LAN OK but cannot access Internet

Travis

I have recently upgraded three computers on a Hub Based
Network to Windows XP from Windows 98se. All are working
fine on the LAN but after installing Microsoft updates,
ONE of the computers suddenly lost Internet access. All
hardware is functioning properly and the network settings
are the same as the two computers that still have Internet
Access. LAN access is not affected. I have tried removing
the networking setup and re-installing it but achieved no
change in the problem. I have broadband cable Internet and
DSL available and have tried it with both without success.
Both of the other computers are able to access the cable
or DSL without any problem. Any Suggestions???

success.

Travis,

I had the same problem, on internet explore go to tools,
internet options, connections and click on LAN settings.

After that go to start, control panel, network
connections, and right click on your network connection.
Select properties and then (TCP/IP), click on properties
and make sure that "obtain an IP address automaticaly"
and "obtain DNS server automaticly" are selected.

Restart your computer and do this on all the others. It
took awhile and alot of searching in help to find this.
Hope it helps you.

Travis,

The only other thing that I think of is that maybe you
have bridged connection on the computer. If you look in
network connections and see a bridge connection disable it
and see what happens. I tired a combo of things at first
and it was an all day affair. I finally positioned my
computers so I could see each menu. I t was only then did
I notice a difference on one of the menu screens.

I'm now dealing with the same problem but only with a
wireless router. I've been at it all day and 2 out of 3
computers are up on the workgroup network. Bill Gates is
with out question of my Christmas mail list.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
