LAN Network Passwords

Larry Van Etten

I have an XP connected via local area network to two
other PC's. I have no problen accessing shared devices on
the other PC's. When I setup sharing on the XP, the other
PC's can see the shared folders on the XP but cannot
access because they are prompted for a password. I cannot
find any way to not use passwords, and , cannot find a
way to assign passwords to the non XP devices.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on XP to fully enable file sharing:

If you've assigned a password to XP's Guest account, enter that
password at the prompt.

If you've disabled simple file sharing on XP, see this web site for
how to configure it for access by other computers:

Thank you! I understand everything you said, however, I
still have a problem. I am using XP Home Edition, and
there is no option to add a Password to the Guest
Account. Passwords can be added to other accounts, but
not Guest.

Any recomendations?

Reading a later post, I see the other PC's are Win98.

Do both these PC's have a login screen at startup, or do they just boot
straight into the desktops?

I think they need to have some form of login into the workgroup to be
able to access the XP shares?
