The LAN ICON is used to view status and counters when
connecting to the internet or local network. In my case
the DSL link is functioning ok but I have no LAN Icon to
click on properties to see tcp/ip settings. I have no
idea when it went away or why. I have the computer
protected with firewall/trogon hunter/virus and run tests
each day to insure system security. We have been working
on this for sometme and cannot cure the problem. Checked
KB etc. Thanks for any help.

what the network icon in your tray?
start-controlpanel-networkandinternetconnections-networkconnections under
'lan or high speed' point to the local area connection, right click, and
choose properties the check the box next to 'show icon in notification area
when connected.'
