Damn thing serves NO purpose except to piss me off. It has an X through it,
so it knows that it does not need to be there. I did find a way to get rid
of it a while ago, but while setting up another ISP I clicked the LAN wizard
by mistake and got this icon back. I can not find my notes how I got rid of
this stupid thing. Can anyone help me??

It was not that equally stupid hide inactive icons thing. I just got if out
of there. Please help me.

My network places, view network connections, right click your connection,
properties, uncheck: show icon in notification area when connected.

I've never seen the option not be there. Maybe try creating a new connection
and deleting the current one and see if the option shows up.

I found It.

Control Pnl, Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection, choose
"Disable".

If you choose disable, then it does just that, disables the connection. That
is to turn the connection completely off, not to make the icon dissapear.
Sure the icon goes away, but its because the connection is gone to. If you
use this connection for a network or the internet it will now no longer work
until you enable it again.

That's because your on dialup. Dialup doesn't use a Local Area Connection.
If your using dialup then the lan connection isn't even needed(unless you
have a network). And now I see your on netzero, so they may create their own
dialup connection which does not have the options for the icon or firewall.
Aol does similiar stuff.
