LAN Connection jumping in and out of connectivity

I recently installed a network between my three computers
using hard wiring between two of them to a D-Link router
with the third connected wirelessly on a dedicated IP
address.

The network seems to be working fine except that now,
intermittently, I see the little dialog box from the
systemm tray come up saying "Local Area Connection - A
network cable is unplugged" followed almost immediately
with the next dialog box saying "Local Area Connection is
now connected".

This indicates that the connection is breaking and being
reconnected for some unknown reason. That is the
information I am looking for. Why does this happen and
how can I resolve it?

Hi Richard,

Both computers that have this symptom are hard-wired into
the router.

Which computer has the on-and-off connection? Wired or wireless?

Have you tried different cables, or different network jacks on the router?

Hi Richard and Roy.
I've been dealing and searching about this router problem for months.
Today, my search brought me to talkabout.
My problem is exactly the same as Roy's:
...intermittently, I see the little dialog box from the
system tray come up saying "Local Area Connection - A
network cable is unplugged" followed almost immediately
with the next dialog box saying "Local Area Connection is
now connected".

This is exactly what has been happening to me.
I too have a D-Link router - and the message is coming on the computer
that is hardwired to the D-Link. I've tried different cables, switching
to different jacks and 2 different ethernet adapters on my computer, an
Intel on my motherboard and a D-Link. No help.

I was just wondering if you found a solution.

Thanks
Bill

Bill,

update the router firmware. For good measure, update the network
adapter drivers as well.

Hi;

Maybe you've already considered increasing the maximum idle time on the WAN
connection?

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions.
Last I checked the latest firmware for my D-Link Di-624 revC was a beta
version. I just checked now and it's no longer beta. I'll upgrade and hope
it helps.

I'm having a hard time finding a driver upgrade file that applies
specifically to my adapter (Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection). I'm
paging thru the ASUS site, but can't find a driver that's named
specifically for this adapter, so I'm not that confident about what to
download.

Is the max idle time only applicable to PPPoE? My router is set to DHCP.

Thanks

Thanks

Try www.intel.com and click on Downloads and Drivers.

I'm not quite sure I understand this question.
