I have a curious problem:

my on board LAN and WLAN are both working properly

But they are not visible in:
1) the systems tray
2) in the Network connections folder
3) in the firewall administration

therefor I cannot configure these components manually and I am not shure if
the firewall is active on these connections.

The only visible items are the VPN and Dial up connections.

Please give me some advice where to "check a box".

Thanx
Thomas

sorry can't help you make them "visible" other than give this a try:
1 change the display of network connection your start menu to off and back.
how? see step below
right click start menu, select properties, start menu tab, customize
button, go advance tab, change the network connection to don't display, OK
button, click apply button.
go back and change the network connection setting to link to network
connections folder
OK, Apply
Now open the network folder, go tools, options, view, make user system
files, folders, and hidden files are displayed
Good luck

Failing that try step 2
2
However, to check firewall, try start menu, all programs, accessories,
system, and then look for something like security center or firewall.
Good luck

Tanks,
unfortunately it does not change anything.
Due to my native language (German) and a German version XP maybe some of the
names used were not adequat.

The point is: I can see the hardware components i.e. "Intel PRO/1000 MT ...
" where ever hardware components are adressed.
But I can not see the "Ethernet LAN-Connection" nor the "Wireless
LAN-Connection" whereever these logical components are adressed.
All folders, listboxes etc. only show my dial-up and vpn connections.

The only exception is the command shell using "ipconfig". Here these
connections are listed.

I assume, that (worst case) the related registry entry got lost, but I have
no idea where to look / check and how to fix it.
