Lack of Icon in Task Bar?

What does it mean when the icon showing an application is running does
not show in lower right of the Task Bar? Task Manager shows it to be
running. I double click on the app-execution Icon and it does nothing
(after all it is executing). How do I get it to show again in lower
right of Task Bar? I need it there so I can click on it to change an
option in it while it is running. Normally I can do that.

Thanks

Are you sure that it hasn't become hidden? Click on the '<' symbol just to
the left of system tray (as it is often called) to reveal the hidden icons.

By right clicking on the task bar itself and selecting 'Properties' and then
the 'customize' (sic) button, you can set your application to not be hidden.

Thought of that - no help.

I found it as a 'past item', changed it to 'always show' - did no
good.

Thanks Jethro

Here a few things I found with a groups.google.com search:

Scroll down to
Notification Area

(or do a Ctrl + F for Notification Area)

See Chevron is missing: and Icons are missing or disappear, reappear:

Methods/workarounds: Log off and Log back on, password protect your
account or disable SSDP and uPNP Services.

Disable SSDP and uPNP Services (Line 156)

Or if you are running XP SP1 uninstall UPnP from Add/Remove Windows
Components.
