is XP not using the L2 cache of the CPU?
i found a registry setting (secondleveldatacache) is 0 by default
do i have to set it myself?
thanks

0 is the default, which means it's set to your cpu's secondleveldatacache.
You can modify this yourself to be what amount of L2cache your cpu has eg
256 of 512. Enter the number in a decimal format.

that means.....
windows xp default will not use the L2 cache of the cpu?

No - it means it uses whatever level the BIOS is reporting. Only none
if you turn it off in BIOS. This is a means to restrict the amount of
cache, if for example it is suspected it is suffering a defect in the
upper half. A setting of zero is 'do nothing about it - leave whatever
the BIOS supplies'
