ASUS P4S8X-MX and Inte CPU SL7E4

I have an asus mother board with L2 cache 512KB.(Maximum) There is NO 1024KB at all.
I intend to add in a intel cpu with L2 cache 1024KB.
The mother board supports up to 3GHz and ddr 400 or pc 3200 so in this aspect , both items are compatible except the L2 cache.
I tried to find info from the forums but no results so far and i dare not risk it since the cpu chip is pretty rare and having it destroy the mobo or vice versa is risky.

Personally, I'd buy something a little more up-to-date ... that MB is as old as I am.

Thanks for the reply but i had already found the necessary info
If you had noticed the asus mobo handles a 3GHz and L2 cache 512KB
My intel cpu is also 3GHz but has L2 cache 1024KB meaning 1MB.
This is my main issue.Can you help?
