KT600 Mobo wont recognise the CDROM...please help

Harry

My dad has just installed his new KT600 mobo and the CDROM wont boot
his XP CD however, it will boot his old 95 CD. Weird or what!?!

The Harddisks are all blank.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? The CD ROM is a 3yr old
24x and the IDE cable is a ATA100 round cable.

I have checked the bios and the CD ROM is set to be the primary boot.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

cheers

Harry

It could be that the old Cdrom drive is not up-to-spec for the WinXP
disk.Cdrom/CDR/W/DVD drives change what they call,"White/Orange book"
hardware specs as they progress.
For now set to boot from a floppy and use a boot disk with cdrom
support and then run the setup.exe off the Cd once the boot disk is
loaded e.g the old fashioned way.
If you don't have a floppy drive this burnable ISO,
http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/bootd.zip
contains a win98 bootable floppy with the updated Fdisk from ME.
it should boot ok even with an old drive as it's old technology in
effect.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we tried that and the Setup.exe on
the Windows XP cd refuses to run from DOS. My dad typed in "SETUP.EXE"
and the message was something like "Cannot run this program from DOS".

Is their any command line parameters we need to add possibly?

cheers

Try winnt.exe from the i386 directory.

Does the BIOS know the CD Rom drive is there ?
If so, when the message comes up to boot from CD , press any key, do you ?

Yes the BIOS can see the CD ROM, but no the 'Boot from CD' message
does not come up unless you use a Windows 95/98/ME CD. Its only the XP
CD that doesnt work.

For whats its worth the CD ROM is a TEAC 540-E that apparently
(according to the TEAC website) can read Mode 1 and Mode 2 disks

Any confirmation on whether the Orange/White book is to blame?

Thanks for all your help Guys!

It has finally been sorted. The problem was that he had connected up a
PCI RAID Controller with a HDD on.

Suffice to say the BIOS got its knickers in a twist. Disconnecting the
HDD solved the problem.

I wish I had known about the RAID Controller being connected then I
wouldnt have had to start this thread!?!?!

Never mind, all done now,

cheers
