Kodak Easyshare will not install in XP

I upgraded my computer from Win98 to XP. I then tried to reinstall Kodak Easyshare software after uninstalling it using the Add/Remove program feature. The install from the Kodak CD seemed to go just fine, except when I restarted the system as instructed, Kodak did not show up in the Start/Program File list, nor is there an icon in the Program Files/Kodak folder. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it numerous times.... each time being unsuccessful. This program is running successfully on two other computers that have XP running. I am extremely frustrated at not being able to get this to work on this computer. I turned off my Norton Antivirus 2004 and Zonealarm during installation, as well as not having the dock plugged in. I am at a loss as to what to do next. Is there anyone that can give me a solution to this hair-pulling problem?

Lisa, go to Start>Run type: regedit. Navigate to
HKey_Current_User\Software. Look for a Kodak folder there and delete it.
Same with HKey_Local_Machine\Software. Restart and try installing again.

I have a very similar problem. If I do what Rich recommends will it delete
all my photo downloads out of documents? I have already wiped out my Easy
Share photo albums so I want to be very careful. Frustrated!

To "frustrated" - back up your photos onto a cd-r first. Then you won't
have to worry about losing them.

THat is what started this trouble in the first place. After I upgraded from
Windows 98 SE to Windows XP the CD burner would no longer burn photos thruogh
Easyshare so Kodak told me to upgrade the easyshare software to 4.0 and thus
began this long frustrating process. That would not install so Kodak support
told me to use a ESS removal tool off their website which erased my photo
albums and the Easy Share software that was working and since that time I
cannot install any Easyshare software not the old off the cd or the new off
their website.

Windows XP has built-in cd burning capability. Open XP's Help & Support
and type in "cd burning". Go through the instructions, which are
extremely easy, and back up your data.

It's a MIRACLE!!! It works! Plus all my photoalbums in Easy Share came
back!! The only problem is that when I installed Easy Share 4.0 I got an
error called "ALT;
can not run Unicode version of ALT71.DLL on Windows 95, 98, or ME please
install ANSI Version. I am running Windows XP. I did the compatibility
testing but they do not list XP as a choice. I then redownloaded the program
from the Kodak website making sure it said for Windows XP; it came up on the
screen but started causing problems with the display color resolution and I
have had trouble getting the display to hold the color. It seems like this
is not compatibible with XP even though Kodak says it is. I searched the
Microsoft website but could find nothing for Kodak Easy Share. Thanks for
all the help. If you have any info to help the color display problem,
software incompatibity, or what the "ANSI version" is please post!
I wrote Kodak support at least 10 times, too bad they did not know about
this! I also found much to my surprise that XP does indeed burn photos well,
had I known that I would never have started this wild goose chase. THanks,
so much!!

I'm glad to hear you can now burn cd's. I don't have any answers for you
regarding the Easy Share software, but I can tell you that it has
caused a lot of problems for others. You might want to just look around
for a different program. There are lots of photo management programs
around - just take a stroll over to your local Computer Big Store and
browse.

Good luck,

Malke
