i've got a KVM switch that switches between several computers running XP,
server 2003, and 98. occasionally, the mouse will hang on one of the
computers. th switch (a linXcel) has a reset function but this doesn't solve
the problem. i have to reboot the affected machine. is there an easier way
to bring the mouse back? thanks for any help.

That sounds like an internal "connection" problem in the switch itself.
It maybe getting worn and actually not connecting properly anymore.

I had a similar issue, and I linked it to my cordless mouse. Once I replaced
the cordless mouse with a wired mouse the problem went away.

Some KVM's work better than others and some work better with certain
mice and not with others. I had a Belkin 4-port with audio and it never
worked as well as the older Belkin 2-port.

I think you will find that this happens when the mouse was not switched
to the machine concerned at boot, so Windows finds it
