Kingston Pen drive not recognised

I am trying to connect a 512MB Kingston USB pen drive (DTI/512) to my
PC which has got Win XP on it. The device is not recognized and I get
an XP message:"USB device not recognized, One of the USB devices
connected to this computer has malfunctioned" etc.
I am sure that the USB port is working, since the other pen drive (128
MB Lexar) works fine on this port.
I also have Win 98 on the same PC on one of its partitions, I tried
booting from win98 and using this pen drive (Kingston) and also
downloaded driver given for win98 from Kingston website, but that also
doesn't work.
Moreover, the Kingston pen drive, which is not recognized on this PC,
works fine on one of the other PCs I tried. These things are puzzling
me. What can be the problem on my PC? Any suggestions are welcome. I
tried the winXP troubleshooter also, but no help. I uninstalled
firewall (Sygate) and disabled my antivirus (NAV2005) and then tried
the Pen drive, still no success.

On dot !
Thanks Mich, it worked perfectly. I just needed to go through the first
six steps, and it worked. I pity for the Win XP troubleshooter, which
took me through a number of steps and ultimately said it can't solve
the problem.
