Keyboard

My keyboard has stopped being detected. I've connected two other keyboards
that I know are good....no joy. I have gone to device manager, the keyboard
is not listed as such......there is an icon titled "Human Interface Devices"
that appears to be a mouse atop a keyboard. When properties for this listing
is checked, only my Logitech cordless mouse shows up. No keyboard. In
control panel, when I click on keyboard, then the hardware tab, nothing is
there. I pulled up system information from Help and Support, and again there
is no keyboard listed. I can't get into the bios because the keyboard is
useless. I've checked for any possible resource conflicts and have found
none.

System Info:
XP Home SP1 fully updated, P4 2.4ghz cpu on Intel 865PERL board, 512mb dual
channel DDR400 memory.

Any/all suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks,

Intel has a BIOS jumper on the motherboard, which will force
the BIOS to open when you boot, check the manual for your
mobo at www.intel.com to see the location of the jumper.

But if you can get into the device manager with the mouse,
(I presume that is what you're doing) you may want to use
device manager to REMOVE the human interface devices and the
ports they use. When you reboot all the devices and ports
should be re-detected and drivers installed.

BTW, Intel should have motherboard driver updates.

Jim...thanks. Yes the mouse is operable. I will try the simplest fix first,
uninstalling and rebooting. I hope it's just that simple.

All seems to back in order. I removed 'human interface devices' in device
manager, rebooted and everything came back. I'm using the previously
non-functioning keyboard to write this. I have no clue what caused the
problem. Odd thing though, my mobo, (Intel 865PERL), supports hyperthreading
and was enabled on initial board setup. I'm certain that only 1 processor
was listed in device manager after initial setup. I wasn't concerned because
the system functioned properly. Now 2 processors are listed.....strange!!!
At any rate, the problem is no more.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hyperthreaded processor will show as two, dual will show as
4.

So does this mean that XP Pro will not work on a dual hyperthreaded
processor setup? Wasn't there a limit on the number of processors that
XP Pro could use, and this would put it over the max, even though you
actually only have 2?
