since installing xp pro my keyboard has not functions the
same. i have lost volume control. i tried to reload the
software that came with the gateway computer to no
avail. each time i boot it tells me my keyboard has a
problem and sends an error report. how can i fix this?

Have you tried going to gateway's website and looking for updated
drivers for your KB
