Keyboard won't allow standby or hibernation

Any thoughts are appreciated. I sometimes have a MS ps2 internet keyboard
attached to my laptop via the usb port and an adapter. Since first using the
keyboard, I am not able to enter standy or hibernation mode - I get an error
message saying that I might need to update the keyboard driver. At first
winxp was using the standard keyboard driver, and then I tried installing
intellipoint pro 5.0, to no avail. I get the error message regardless of
whether the keyboard in actually plugged in. It also makes no difference
whether the usb to ps2 adapter is plugged in.

Thanks in advance for any hints ...

Why would you install Intellipoint (mouse) drivers for a keyboard. You need
"Intellitype" drivers for the keyboard!

If you have an older version of Adobe Type Manager installed it will do this.Try uninstalling it.

Ooops - that's what I meant -- Intellitype.

I guessing that the fact that the ps2 keyboard is going through a usb port
is the cause of the problem....

HI. I too have a similar problem. On my laptop when i try to get it into standby or hibernation an error message comes up with something like " the alps pointing device is preventing windows from entering standby. Try and update the driver may fix this." I have updated the driver and this has not solved anything. I think the alps pointing device is something to do with my touchpad mouse. I have found programs running relating to the driver"apoint.exe" and ended them but this did not work either.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong and how to solve this????
Also system restore did nothing to fix this problem either
