Keyboard stops working

From time to time, my keyboard stops working. There is no response when I
hit any of the keys. I need to reboot my computer by powering off completely
and then restarting. Any ideas what is causing this?

Thanks.

1. Defective keyboard?
2. Defective KB cable?
3. Defective KB socket?
You can test ## 1-2 by connecting a different keyboard.

I tried the "defective" keyboard on another computer and it worked OK. I
also tried another known good keyboard on the computer that I was having
trouble with, and it was fine too. Part of the problem is that the symptoms
are periodic. Most of the time it works, but occassionally it doesn't.

I will try and do some other troubleshooting.
