Keyboard sticking?

I keep getting some keys repeating themselves very rapidly, so I get a string
of letters all the same. Most scary:- I was trying to drag some text to
lower down an email. I don't think I pressed the delete key but it started
deleting everything in the email. I closed it but it seemed the delete
function was still going, as it then rapidly deleted all the messages listed
in my inbox. (I got them back later from the 'Deleted' folder.)

Closing down a document or program doesn't help, I just get flashes all over
the screen. The only thing I can do is turn the power off then reboot.

It's a wireless keyboard and I've tried changing the battery.

Is it a keyboard fault, or have I got some scary virus?

I don't think you have "some scary virus". Naturally you have a
full-featured current version antivirus installed, your subscription to
it is active, and the virus definitions are updated. Right?

With the computer off, attach a regular keyboard to the ps/2 port. Does
the symptom occur? If not, your wireless keyboard is faulty. If yes,
then check the repeat rate in the Control Panel Keyboard applet.
