Keyboard slow response

When I type it is taking 10 seconds before the letters & numbers appear on
the screen. This is happening in all programmes - email, word, skype etc.

Is there some setting to fix this?

I have already looked in the control panel / keyboard and the settings are
identical to my laptop (& I do not have this problem on my laptop).

Can anyone help? or make a suggestion?

You probably have something running in the background. Maybe a virus
scanner? Go to task manager and check for running
programs. To isolate, shut down virus programs, go to msconfig and shut down
programs till problem is solved.
