i had the same problem with an emachine desktop at work, took it in for
warranty service and it was the keyboard port on the motherboard. have you
tried a different keyboard ( even though the kb works on a different computer
)?

Hi yes have tried another keyboard but still the same I beleive it to be a
software issue as both keyboards work in bios but as soon as XP loads no
keyboard not even listed in device manager

exactly. my comp. from work was sent back to the mfg. for diagnostic service,
and they had to replace the motherboard. sounded strange to me too, but thats
what they did. the kb would work in bios, and if i booted to a dos prompt,
but when i booted to windows, nothing. if your comp. is under warranty, take
it in for service. even if its not. otherwise, you are going to end up doing
the same thing i did....stress out for days, then reinstall windows and have
the same problem afterwards.
