I have an annoying intermittent problem, and hope someone can assist me to
find a solution please.
When typing an email, suddenly the keyboard output is garbage. I am using
Word as an editor within Outlook 2007, under XP Home. I use a Microsoft
IntelliType Pro 5.5 multi-media keyboard (not wireless) I regularly install
all Microsoft updates.
The problem disappears if I re-boot the computer.

"Garbage" in what way?
See if the following applies to you;

Thanks for the response. No this is not the problem. I have just had this
happen again. Here's the example. To show you what the garbled result is, I
typed "Its just happened again. I cannot see any pattern in this text"
The text on the screen in the email is: Cyo hgoy dall.b.e aiacbv C jabbry
o.. abf lay.pb cb ydco y.qy

There is a pattern
I-> C
t-> y
s-> o
etc...

All of this would indicate you have multiple keyboard layouts configured.

Sorry I just decided that the symptoms in that example were not mine. Yes I
do appear to have multiple keyboards. This may have happened as I struggled
to choose English Australia (or British English) as my MS Office language.
It shows:
EN (Australia) (bold)
Keyboard
United States-Dvorak
US (bold
What do I do now please?

Remove the one you don't need.

Thanks but I am not sure which one, or whether I should enable a different
one more suitable for English (Australia) Should I perhaps enable Great
Britain or GB extended? As these are all English language, I need to
understand what if anything a keyboard language changes.
Thanks for all your help Robert

What is your physical keyboard's layout - US, or GB, or Australian (is
there such a thing as Australian keyboard layout?)?

Windows does not know your physical keyboard's layout, that's why you
must specify what keyboard you are using.

Thanks for your reponse Pat.
My keyboard is simply labelled
Microsofti Media Keyboard 10.A (would the A = Australia?) The driver is
IntelliType Pro 5.5

I have no idea what the difference between a US and GB layout is,so I just
assume its US.
I hope I am not missing the point here.

Ok having read this interesting article I see that I have a US keyboard
layout and have deleted the Dvorak one.
Hopefully the gremlin has gone now
Many thanks for your help
