Keyboard lag in 3D games

I

Ian Argent

I have an Optical Desktop Pro, and when I have the Intellitype software
installed, I have an issue in every 3D game (I most noticed this in
shooters, but have confirmed it in a 3D engine RTS) and only 3D games
(does not occur is a 2d sidescroller I tested in, nor does it occur in
windows under normal operations).

The problem has two main symptoms; first, there is a noticeable delay
between hitting a key and having it take effect (up to a second).
Secondly, when I hold a key down, the key repeats for an amount of time
equivalent to the time I held it down, before I can press another key
and have it take effect (the keys do queue up). In some games, this key
repeating locks out the mouse from working!

If I uninstall the Intellitype software, this does not occur. It occurs
with my Nostromo N52 keypad if I have that installed and have
Intellitype installed. It doesn't' matter whether I have the receiver
plugged in by both the PS/2 port and the USB port, or only the USB port.

Presence or absence of Intellipoint software does not appear to have an
effect. Presense or absence of the Nostromo pad does not have an effect
(I uninstalled it for troubleshooting purposes).

The issue only shows up when the intellitype 5.2 software is installed.
(and without it, the extra keys which I bought the kb for won't work)

I am sorry I do not have a fix for you, but I just wanted to comment that I gave up any Intellipoint software years ago, as I always had issues with games, i.e., mouse wheel not working properly in 3d games when trying to assign a function such as MWHLUP or MWHLDOWN. In fact, it seems to be a common factor with Logitech''s mouse software as well. I simply use a normal windowsXP supported keyboard and mouse. No issues. I want to know if you find a fix...good luck.

Previous to this, I had a MS Internet kb pro, and didn't have issues
with intellitype on that (and I'm pretty sure I eventually installed
ITP5 for it).

The problem in determining where it stopped working is that I did a
fairly extensive hardware upgrade a short time after I got the Wireless
desktop elite (and I have no problems with the mouse and intellipoint
SW).
