Keyboard Intermittently Turns Off & On

For a few weeks now, I've been having intermittent problems with my
keyboard.

- It goes completely dead with no apparent cause.
- Sometimes it'll come back on by itself after a few seconds/minutes,
sometimes unplugging and replugging will bring it back, and sometimes
it's off for hours.
- Different keyboards exhibit the same problem on this PC
- The keyboard is USB
- When it turns off, sometimes a message will popup saying "USB Device
Not Recognized"
- The keyboard is plugged directly into the PC (no external hub)
- My mouse and other USB devices are working fine
- The keyboard exhibits the same problem in other USB ports
- The keyboard exhibits the same problem when plugged into the PS/2
port with an adapter
- I tried turning of the "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power" setting on all the USB Root Hubs, but to no avail.
- My Windows XP installation is only a few months old, and only a few
programs are installed, but I've had the PC for several years
- Virus scan with Avast didn't find anything
- Motherboard is A7N8X-E Deluxe, 512MB of RAM

Any suggestions? I'm going crazy, and the only thing I can conclude
is that the mobo needs replacing.

Try a powered USB hub. This could "indicate" that your computer's
power supply can/does not provide enough power over the UBS ports.
Also, if the PS/2 adapter was not originally supplied with the USB
keyboard, then the keyboard was not developed with a PS/2 connection
option. Also, not every PS/2 adapter will work with every USB
keyboard.

Most power hungry PC nowadays require 400 watts or greater. Newer PCI-
e SLI systems now are starting to need 500 watts or greater. (1K watt
power supplies are for sale.)
