Keyboard Installation Problem

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavallion (734N) computer. I am using Windows XP
Pro. The keyboard that came with it is installed on the PS/2 port. While
functional, it is too large for my small desk.

As a replacement, I bought a USB ViewSonic KU201 keyboard. Not only is it
streamlined, it also coordinates with my VS Flat Panel monitor. When I try
to install it, the computer boots to the CMOS/BIOS setup utility....instead
of the XP Welcome screen. However, if I boot the computer without any
keyboard installed and plug the ViewSonic one into a USB port, it works
beautifully. Why?

Is there anyway to fix this? Can I "tell" my computer to only use the
keyboard found in the USB port?

I have called ViewSonic technical support and the technician was less than
helpful. He told me to call back in an hour and talk to one of their
engineers.

I must tell you....I am stumped.

Any help or insight that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

With the USB keyboard plugged in, when you start the
computer, does it go straight into the BIOS setup or do
you get a message first ?

It goes straight to the CMOS BIOS Set-up utility page. Robin

While you're in CMOS setup check the USB settings concerning Legacy USB
support and try enabling it if it isn't already.

Could also be a sticking DEL or F2 key (or the key that normally gets
you into CMOS setup).

I called View Sonic. They think that it is a sticking key, too.
Unfortunately, we don't know which key activates the CMOS Setup on my HP
computer. Now...it looks like I have to call HP. Gee...I wonder if it is
worth it?!?!? Thanks for your help. Robin

It's the F1 key for that model.

You're welcome Robin. BTW, I found that info at www.hp.com in the manual
for that model and it took a whole minute, but that's because HP's
website sucks and PDF files take a while to download
