keyboard input problems

After bootup, no application will not accept any keyboard
entry. I am using XP on a Dell laptop Inspiron 2500.
The desktop is not acting right either. For eg. when I
click on Start, the icons do not stay. I thought about
reinstalling the OS but I cannot type in the COA. Also,
cannot enter setup mode. At first when I tried it came
back with several beeps. Now it doesn't even beep but
continues to bootup.

If still under warranty, call Dell's tech support on their 800 number. They
will be glad to support you.

A quick test if you have access to a floppy boot disk.

Boot to the A: prompt and attempt to type anything you desire. If the
keyboard responds there it is not a hardware problem but a software problem
(virus or worm). If the keyboard doesn't work there is a hardware problem
which Dell will need to resolve for you.
