Today, my WinXP Sp2 box started acting strangely.
Specifically, at some point in the middle of the day, after I powered it
up, my keyboard wouldnt work at the login dialog screen. The mouse does,
but not the keyboard. Num lock/Caps Lock do not turn on lights, no keys
seem to work at all.
The keyboard works fine before starting up as I can enter the Bios
configuration prior to boot. In addition, I can boot into Safe Mode and
the keyboard works fine there, as I can successfully log in.
I rolled back to a restore point from last Friday, but the symptoms are
the same. I tried switching keyboards but the symptoms are the same. It
seems as if there is some kind of conflict occuring during boot.
The only thing I did this morning a little while (a couple of hours?)
before the problem occured was to install MS VS.Net 2003 on the computer
(and security updates, etc). However, I would have thought rolling back
to the older restore point would have solved the problem if this was the
culprit.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem?
