Chink!

Hello

Using a laptop with windows xp - some keyboard characters come out
incorrectly
such as £ comes out as #
and @ comes out as '

How can I correct this?
The regional settings are for English (UK)

I know I can use the character map to access the correct characters but I'd
much rather just fix it

any help welcome
