Keyboard burning through batteries

I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard 6000 v3.0

Starting about two weeks ago, it started consuming batteries at at a very high rate. Where previously a set of batteries might last several months, now it uses up a set of batteries in a single day!

Any thoughts?

Did you ever figure it out?

C'mon now. You are trying to tell this group that the Energizer
batteries that Walmart sells (with the same exp date) are of a poorer
quality than those same batteries (Energizer) that are sold by 'your'
store?

Other stores too.

Yep. Wal mart get a lot of back door merchandise because they won't
let their suppliers make a decent living. Seen a customer
struggler with that. Why do you think their s--- is so cheap,
is not because they by so much stuff from China.

Can you point us to any documentation of that?

Just my personal experience with a customer that sold to
them.

Have you ever noticed that a manufacturer tries a new
bottle cap, no one likes it, then disappear from the
higher priced store, and suddenly, Wal Mart has
a ton of the bottle with the caps no one likes?

The business model obviously works for Wal Mart. Folks,
including me, put up with the weird caps because they
are cheaper.

I wouldn't buy any batteries from them. I learned the
hard way.

In that case, sorry, but I won't accept that it's true. It didn't
sound right to begin with, but I wanted you to have a chance to
demonstrate that it was.

No problem. You can't believe everything you hear,
especially in the Internet.

I know that many people disagree with me, but I wouldn't use any kind
of a battery on a keyboard. I have never seen any value to a wireless
keyboard.

And ditto for a wireless mouse. Except perhaps for use with a laptop
when traveling, I see no value to a wireless mouse either.

I felt the same way about a wireless mouse, until I tried one out of
curiosity. Now, for my main computer, this Mac, I wouldn't have a wired
mouse. No cord twisting, getting caught, or drag. It's a Microsoft 5000.

The other computers have wired mice, I don't use them enough to justify
the cost.

I've tried two wireless mice, at different times, in an effort to help
me understand why people use them. Both are gone and I still use a
wired mouse. I get no "cord twisting, getting caught, or drag."

IMO, all three of those effects are contingent on how much room you have
for your system, and mouse handling. Each person will be different.

A side effect of switching to a new mouse, either wireless or wired, I
actually got one that fits my hand! LOL

The first link ( http://joewo.com/WordPress/?p=9281) is a joke!
It is not even worthwhile to check the rest of them.

Sounds like you just hate WalMart (ie: WalMart; Energizer batteries aa-aaa
are 'older and poorer and lower quality' than those same Brand ones sold in
other stores with the same exp date)

"I worked for a company that did business with Wal Mart.
They screw their vendors. So, Walt Mart gets a lot
of back door and almost rejects because of their
attitude to their suppliers."

Hmmm, ?

In message <[email protected]>, Buffalo
MythBusters (tv program) did a myth test on filament (120v) light
bulbs regarding whether the life of the bulb decreases if you turn the
light on and off a lot, compared to leaving it on. They determined that

I'm surprised; I would have thought it would have at least some effect.
But on the whole MythBusters are reasonably careful.

Since you mention 120v bulbs, I'm assuming they used domestic lightbulbs
(hard to get filament ones here in the UK now!), presumably in
stationary fittings. For a torch (flashlight), it is IMO moderately
likely that it would be being moved at the time of switchon - if only
due to the movement involved in actually operating the switch. This
_might_ be significant.

Anyhow, this does nothing to help the OP with his question. Hopefully
he will find a low cost solution. If not, he should just replace the
keyboard.
I suspect he's long gone from this thread (-:! [If I'm wrong, I'd be
interested to know if he solved the problem.]

You haven't really answered Buffalo's question about same brand, same
expiry date batteries/cells, unless you're suggesting that W. fake them.

I hadn't, but like you I'd probably buy them.

I'd buy alkalines (if I was buying anything other than rechargeables,
which I'm not really) from them. Probably not named brand, though.

LOL! I was going to say something similar. but I bit my tongue. I'm
far from immune to making typos myself, so I never want to make fun of
them (but making jokes about them is fine).

I, too, don't usually point out obvious typos - as you say, one can
easily be hoised by one's own petard; however, it is an accepted
convention that typos in pedantry must be seized upon (-:. [And also
that the seizing itself will then be found to have one or more errors in
it. (Hoised isn't one.)]
