Keyboard backspace?

R

Rosie

I don't know if this an XP problem or not, but I'm running out of ideas.
The backspace & Del keys on my Mitac 8555 no longer work, so I cannot
correct my typing. The only thing I can do is highlight the wrong
spelling and press space. I'm using UK keyboard & language settings.
Any ideas please?

Hi Rosie,

Have you tried a new keyboard yet?

Well Rosie, that's the most likely solution. You might check to see if any
of the keys are stuck (and not just the ones you are having trouble with).
I'm not sure that is the case Rick. The backspace key will work fine for
a while if I try typing tests to try and produce the fault, and then
later on while I'm doing something, I notice it has packed up again.
None of the other keys do this, none of them are stuck, they all have a
nice 'clicky' feel to them.
I suppose it could be a bad cable connection, but I also wondered if
this could be an XP problem in some way?
Thaks for your response.

Hi Rosie,

It couldbe a driver issue, but it still sounds like a hardware issue. This
is especially so since it fails after a period of activity.

Yes, you could well be right, as it is now getting worse, another 6 or 7
keys have started to fail now (but they do start to work again after a
while). The notebook was in transit back from the vendors about 2 weeks
ago and perhaps the keyboard cable connector may have worked loose. Or
something!

Quite possible, have someone knowledgable open it and check for a loose
cable.

It is being collected for repair tomorrow (I hope). You were right all
along! Thanks Rick.
