Keyboard and Mouse Won't Respond

I just turned on one of my computers running Windows XP (SP2) and it would
not recognize the mouse nor the keyboard. I went out and bought
replacements, even had the motherboard replaced since the computer's beyond
awesome :) The problem has been isolated to Windows (surprise!). Question
is, how do I fix it? I already tried the Restore feature within Windows XP
but the restore process got stuck on a "Hardware Installation" message. I
can't click past it since Windows still doesn't recognize the mouse nor the
keyboard.

Check if the mouse and keyboard are XP compatible it should so indicate
on the box. If they are, disconnect them and reboot your PC. WindowsXPs
"plug&play" feature should come up with an error message that it found NO
mouse or keyboard installed. Plug in the keyboard first and then the mouse.
Reboot.
