Keyboard and mouse not working

Emachines 2.19 CPU / 256 RAM XP Home system. the system won't respond to
keyboard input or mouse click after normal boot up. The mouse moves on the
screen normally but can't open anything. However in Safe Mode the system
works fine and responds to mouse click and keyboard. Anyone have idea what I
need to do to fix this problem. Is there any registry key to check or some
thing to tweak some where? Please help and thanks in advance.

If the machine works fine in Safe Mode, then something that is running
in Regular Mode is creating the problem. The first thing to determine is
if the machine if virus/malware-free:

If the machine is clean, then do clean-boot troubleshooting to try and
track down the culprit:

Clean-boot advanced troubleshooting in Windows XP -

That should get you started. Also, you should always ask yourself The
First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?
