Key Code Issues with WIndows XP Pro

During installation of OEM version of XP Pro on Compaq Presario 5000 there is
no opportunity to enter key code. After installation is complete and
software has booted up there is a pop up that states you have 30 days to
activate. When I open this window it states that key code is invalid
although there has been no key code entry at this point. It gives an
opportunity to re-enter the code on this screen and when I do for the first
time it says that the code is invalid again.

Does anyone have any insight into what is going on and how to fix this?

That's what happens if a code has been deactivated - if a pirated licence
has been used. Talk to your machines maker - it is an oem copy and support
comes from them.

Contact HP/Compaq to determine why the Product Key they supplied
doesn't work.

Microsoft has "invalidated" several of the major OEM keys due to piracy
and theft issues. Activate by phone. The Activation process should give
you the number for your locale and it will only take a few minutes.

Contact your PC vendor to acquire the correct key code.
