Ken Blake, teach us to make a KillFile too please

Would you post a link to a How-To or tell us here how to create a
KillFile, as you wrote about below, please. Thank you.

What I do know is that I have a limited amount of time to spend here
in the newsgroups, and if I can put someone who trolls, rather than
contributes, in my killfile, it shortens the time it takes to read the
messages. I probably have several examples in my killfile of multiple
posting names being the same person, but I doesn't matter. It's easy
to recognize the trolls, and regardless of how many names they post
under, they make it to my killfile quickly.

OE isn't very robust when it comes to nym-shifting trolls. So either:

1. Add them to the bozo bin each time they change their nym,

2. Use nfilter ( http://www.nfilter.org/ ), or

3. Use another news reader (like Xnews or 40tude, e.g.).

Look at headers to get the info you need. For example (as posted by
VanguardLH):

Uncle Grumpy:
- Uses Forte Agent.
- Comcast customer.
- Posts through Giganews NNTP host.
- IP address: 67.173.179.177

PD43:
- Uses Forte Agent.
- Comcast user.
- Posts through Giganews NNTP host.
- IP address: 67.173.179.177

So, create a rule to filter out posts coming from that IP address.

How to do so depends on what newsreader you use. I see that you are
using Outlook Express. Outlook Express calls it "Message Rules,"
rather than a killfile. Start with Outlook Express help, and post back
if you have specific questions.

Maybe you can help me, maybe not. I have been trying to block all
messages originating from the web interface. The annoyances to me
from this interface are too numerous to mention.
TIA

In some newsreaders you can filter on something like
*@discussions.microsoft.com, but I haven't used Outlook Express in a
while and can't remember whether it works there.

If nobody else answers for sure, try it.

Nfilter aka NewsProxy does this:

http://www.nfilter.org/faq.html

http://www.r-bonomi.com/rec.woodworking/trollctl.html

Link to version 1.2.4:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/Programs/nps-124.zip

In your nfilter.dat file, enter this line:

* drop X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

What's my IP address?
