- Gulf Coast devastation: WLBT TV reporter Coyt Bailey narrates a 26-minute
helicopter flight showing the wide swath of the Mississippi coast destroyed
by Hurricane Katrina. [Unspeakably awesome]

- Levees breach in New Orleans : Engineers are discussing a potential fix to
holes in the levees which have allowed floodwaters to cover most of the city
[Flooding has stopped because the water level has equalized with that of the
lake...and they're gonna pump it back *into* the lake??]

- Story becomes Rescue Mission: Reporter was on his way to try to find out
what was happening at a hospital in New Orleans when he ended up on a rescue
trip. [heartbreaking]

- Help arrives in Biloxi: A Salvation Army truck offers people in Biloxi
their first food in two days.

- Thousands stranded in Mississippi: A long line of people waited patiently
to buy bare essentials at a Wal-Mart in Biloxi [compare to looting in NOLA]

Nah. They aren't taking just food & toilet bowls. Anyhow, there are
helicopters & busses ready to take them to safety, to the Astrodome.
It's a sin what is happening there! Instead of helping in the rescue
effort, they pillage & loot! It's a stink! But I hope Kelly is OK.

I hope your karma catches up to you in this life.

I only hope that you find yourself in a similar situation someday soon.

You need to make a long leap or another of your assumptions to think
I do not "understand and empathize with what these people are going
through." Read my post again.

I did.
I said nothing about necessities, what I did say "luxury items as
well as the shooting..."

And you accused me of excusing looting luxury items. And I never did.
Quote me, if you can.
That is not food or water.

Or dry clothes. But most of the looting I saw was not luxury items.
And I suspect that only a very small number of people are going after
"luxury items." Most people are just trying to survive, after being
left behind.
I would NEVER steal the luxuries or commit senseless crimes if I was
in that position or worse.

I didn't suggest you would. And neither is the majority of people left
behind in New Orleans to fend for themselves.
The "truly criminal activities" refers to senseless criminal activity
of stealing luxuries, assault etc, those totally unnecessary for
health and safety.

Are you trying to suggest that the majority of people are looting luxury
items? It sure sounds like it!
But again you assumed as you need to twist something to suit your own
agenda.

And you assumed that I was excusing the looting of luxury items, which I
never did.
Or perhaps you deny any luxuries are stolen.

I'm sure some were. But not by the majority of people just trying to
survive. I didn't see many TVs at the convention center. I did see
dead bodies there.

You seem to be blaming all the victims of Katrina for the actions of a
very few.
I deliberately did not refer to the essentials in my post because I
can understand their position.
But I doubt I would steal those if I were in their position, there
are other options, such as getting a message to property owner,
keeping a record of what was taken from where etc.

ROFL! You are insane.
There were qualifications in my post, read it again for the first
time, this time make an effort to understand.

You hope "watching your family starve", you are now hoping bad for my
family.
Simply because you disagree with me, you now hope tragedy befall many
others.
You have gone even lower than I thought possible.

Cool. I always knew you were the type that blames victims for their
circumstances, and you lived up to my expectations!
Good bye Kurt.
I would NEVER return the "favour" of wishing that or even far less on
you, your family or anyone else for that matter.

Why should you? I understand and empathize with human suffering. I
don't need to live it to understand. You do.

It's all Bush's fault...he didn't make the dikes strong enough, he
didn't make them all evacuate, he didn't check to see if the Astrodome
roof was strong enough, he didn't make them practice evacuations,
he didn't make them stock up on food and water, he didn't...oh well,
you can see that he's to blame for it all, and I'm sure they will.

Yeah, yeah, ok. Rich guys living on the Jersey Shore get flood
insurance. I bet the poor folks in NO didn't get any.

Looks to me like the main reason we haven't heard from her is the lack of
electricity. We'll just have to wait for her to poke her head out and wave
(some time soon, I hope.)

I'm thinking some people in the IT community needs to get together and
coordinate these various contact lists. I have a sneaking suspicion that
they are going to bloom everywhere and they really should be synched.
Frustrating enough to try and find loved ones in this situation without
adding the extra burden of finding out how many Contact Lists are out there
and how to get to them.

I'm trying hard not to allow my naturally depressive tendencies and
well-developed empathy from totally paralyzing me with regard to the Gulf
states. I'm only having so-so success, but I can't bring myself to turn
off CNN and watch (or rather, listen to) anything else.

Yeah, it's slightly south, too. But the "west" component is the important
part in reference to the storm track. Instead of winds directly off the
Gulf, they got winds that had been passing over land for some time. Dampened
the impact substantially.

I only said the looting afterwards stinks. Some of the actual victims
are getting victimized twice that way!

Perhaps. Don't get me started on the blacks of Illinois cause the anger and despair I feel I can't handle. There is not and never will be hope for them - they are forever screwed by the whites.

However you need to realise that MOST yankees are not racially preduiced (incl Illinois). They feel equal contempt for white trash and admire the few sucessful blacks. But their belief in equality of opportunity, and that their country actually delivers it, blinds them to the effects of class and race. In an ideal world it would work well.

Fear of black anger is the cause of what some consider racism. I consider it fear and with so many guns probably a personally valid fear. I wouldn't want to be in the superdome in NO at the moment with lots of very, very angry blacks (with guns). They don't know I agree with them. Survival comes first.

But white fear has consequences with how the person feared views themselves.

You left wing moron - there are many "roof-top communities" filled with
White people as well as mixes of people - and that was shown on CNN last
night.
