I have discovered Windows Movie Maker, however the computer crashes every
time I use it. Just wondering if I have too little memory and processor etc
for it?

Operating System: Windows XP 5.1
Processor: 2245mhz
Physical Memory: 512MB
Available Memory: 167MB
Vitual Memory: 2.00GB
Available Memory: 1.96GB

Also, for Windows Movie Maker, do you need a DVD writer or simply a CD
Writer?

Hello,

You system is certainly capable, but its very limited on "real" memory. You
should consider upgrading that...you will see a marked improvement if you
just doubled it...but if I were you I would put in as much as you can
reasonably afford/or will fit.

The low amount of memory could be the cause for the crashing but whether it
is or not you should check out the FAQ I posted today at 13:00hrs (GMT + 1)
You should read all of it before taking any action and if you follow the
tip0s you should do so EXACTLY as described.....if you shortcut it you
stand a high chance of not solving your problems (assuming that the tips
are going to solve it for you anyway)

MM can not create a DVD. You need a program like Nero (www.nero.com) Nero
climbed to fame because of its exceptional capabilities in all matters
relating to the creation of CD's, then data DVD's and now Video DVD's. I
have tried a few other programs...Easy DVD by Roxio was one. When I tried
Nero the Roxio software hit the bin. You can download a trial version from
Nero...the only thing it will not do is burn the DVD.

You will need a DVD Writer to create those disks....there are many good
ones and provided you do not buy a white box or OEM version you may well
find a free copy of some DVD writing software.

Finally, do not ever buy cheap DVD disks....this is one product where you
really do get what you pay for.

Howdy Neil..your PC seems just fine..when is your PC Crashing(??)..really far
into your Video on the WMM2 StoryBoard..??..if so..you need to slow down a
bit..Transitions will cause the PC to work harder..the more
Transisitions..the Video Grows more than if they weren't there(they
complicate)the File..I must watch my HDD-light to know how fast to proceed as
I reach the end of my Video FILE(because of the Transistions)..I use a 1.8
GHz(P4)..512 MB's of RAM..and a 7200rpm Maxtor 120GB-HDD..512MB's is
definetly OK for Photography..but the differance is weither its a Still Photo
or a Digital Video that's the Original File..DV is a better option for your
PC..the STILL Photo's are a bit more "dramatic" on your PC-hardware and
Processors..Still cause more problems than DV.

Thanks all for your replies.

I am only using Moviemaker to make movies of pictures / photos of a holiday
with an MP3 track in the background
