Keeping the Windows clock accurate

I have two computers, both running Windows XP Home SP2, connected to
the Internet via DSL modem.

Is there a small, free program one can install that will alert you if
your Windows time is incorrect? Having an incorrect time can be a real
nuisance, as many people who read newsgroups can attest. Just this morning,
I turned on my second PC and XP's Security Center mysteriously reported that
my anti-virus was out of date. I knew that was wrong because the
definitions were dated February 9th, 2007.

After asking around, I was told to check the system clock, and sure
enough, someone had changed the month to March. Fixing this, and a reboot
of the PC, corrected the problem. I wish there was a program I could
install that would have alerted me earlier by saying..."Hey, your system's
clock is out of date. Fix it!" Doesn't Windows have an internal clock that
always knows the correct time?

I posted this question in another online forum, and someone mentioned
XP's Internet time synchronization feature. I have this enabled, and it
checks once a week. Is it possible to tweak this feature so that it checks
more frequently?

Look at http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/
You can change the registry according to that site to check the Internet
Time more often or you can download Atomic Clock Sync from
http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?1000000034325 which is an independant
program to sync your PC with Internet Time.

The following may not be *exactly* what you want, but I think it will
fill your need. Download nistime-32bit.exe from
ftp://time.nist.gov/pub/daytime/nistime-32bit.exe and use it is a free-
standing program for synchronizing with internet time. It is a small
program. I have been using it regularly for manually correcting my
computer time. It has a provision for "querying" the time server
periodically, but I haven't tried using it.
