Keeping email messages on email server and downloading a copy only

Hi,
I was looking for help and came across this forum. Can anyone show me
how to upload my email messages from MS Outlook 2007 to my email
server again? Today I was trying to set up my SMTP with my outlook and
all of a sudden all of my emails on the server got downloaded into
Outlook 2007.

Also, how can I download the emails and keep a copy of it on the
server?

If you prefer to keep messages on the server then it is much more desirable
to use an IMAP account to avoid issues like this and issues resulting from
access from different machines / email clients.
Does your mail provider have IMAP accounts?
With an IMAP set up you can simply drag and drop messages to folders on the
IMAP server. Messages reside on the server and are accessible form anywhere.
